Reputation rankings

Many very different rankings of the reputations on technology companies have been made in recent years, and vary depending on the aspects that were concentrated on. According to the Reputation Institute, the technology industry has had an overall strong reputation (2016). The institute ranked different US companies based on their ability to deliver on stakeholder expectations in products & services, workplace, innovation, governance, citizenship, performance and leadership..

Even though Amazon.com got the highest score, Samsung, who was on the second place in the technology company category, scored highest out of all the US companies on their CSR efforts. Although Apple received a score of more than 10 points below Samsung on this ranking due to the poor extent to which it had been supporting good causes and protecting the environment (MarketingCharts 2016), Greenpeace named Apple the greenest tech company in the world (Price 2015).

Greenpeace applauded Apple for its environmental efforts, however, Fortune even believed the company is applauded so much that consumers think it is even greener than it is in reality (Dumaine 2014). Other companies ranked highly on Greenpeace's study after Apple were Facebook and Google (Price 2015).
